Warrior Prince Sourav Ganguly to lead Pune Warriors India

Pune Warriors India will dazzle on ground in new turquoise blue and silver jersey



Lucknow, March 22, 2012: Pune Warriors India, the IPL franchise of Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate and prime promoter and patron of sports in India, today announced that the legendary all-rounder and Former Captain of Indian Cricket Team, Shri Sourav Ganguly will lead the side of Pune Warriors India as Captain and Mentor in the fifth season of the IPL, to be played from 4th April, 2012 till 27th May, 2012. 
Pune Warriors India team in IPL 5 will don new turquoise blue and silver color jerseys. Turquoise blue color stands for zeal, confidence and victory, the very attributes and motto of a Warrior. 
On this occasion, Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara, Managing Worker & Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar, said “We are extremely proud that the legendary all-rounder and one of the most successful captain of the Indian Cricket Team, Shri Sourav Ganguly, is the Captain and Mentor of Pune Warriors India in this season of IPL. The Pune Warriors India’s bowling coach is Allan Donald while Praveen Amre is the batting coach. Paddy Upton is the mental conditioning and high performance coach of the team.

New Delhi, February 28, 2012: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate and the prime promoter & patron of sports in India, today announced that it will provide support to the upcoming ‘Indian Masters Polo’ which is scheduled to be played from 29th February, 2012 to 4th March, 2012 at the Jaipur Polo ground in New Delhi. As a part of its endeavour, to promote the game of Polo, Sahara India Pariwar will also provide a Prize Money of Rs. 5 lakhs to all the 4 participating teams. The event is promoted by Equisport Management Pvt. Ltd., a sports management company.

Played since the year 1911, The Indian Masters Polo is one of the two ‘Grand-Slams’ of Indian Polo alongwith the Indian Open, which is played at the highest level of 16 goals. The iconic tournament will be played between 4 professional teams of Sahara Warriors, Jindal Steel & Power, Cavalry-USPA & the Cavalry-TJP and will also witness some of the leading Indian & international professionals including Manupal Godara, Samir Suhag, Angad Kalaan, Adhiraj Singh, Lucas Labat, George Meyrick, Niall Donnelly and Miguel Saravia.

Besides supporting the Indian Masters Polo, Sahara India Pariwar & Aamby Valley City, in association with Jaipur Riding & Polo Club had earlier hosted ‘The Sahara Jaipur Polo Season’, in October 2005. This was the first time that Sahara India Pariwar had extended its support to Polo with an intention to leverage the sport among the masses. Then, in the year 2007, Sahara organised the ‘Sahara City Homes Jodhpur Polo Season’ which was formally inaugurated by His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singh, at Maharaja Gaj Singh II Polo Ground, Jodhpur. The event witnessed 4 tournaments namely Jodhpur Polo Cup, Umaid Bhawan Palace Cup, Rajputana & Central India Cup, H. H. Maharaja of Jodhpur Cup.

Lucknow, March 21, 2012: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate and the prime promoter & patron of sports in India, which had earlier announced a cash incentive of Rs. 1.16 crore to players and support staff of The Indian Hockey Team, today felicitated the team and support staff of Indian Hockey Team by bestowing them with cash award for their brilliant performance in FIH Olympic qualifiers, thus cementing a berth in the London Olympics 2012. The players and support staff were honoured with the award and gifts by Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara, Managing Worker & Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar in a glittering ceremony at Sahara Shaher Lucknow.

For their outstanding display, Shri Sardar Singh and Shri Sandeep Singh were awarded Rs. 11 lakhs each, while the rest of the team members along with the main coach were given Rs. 5 lakh each for their performance. The support staff also got an incentive of Rs. 1 lakh each.  In addition to this, the taxes on the cash awards are borne by the company itself, making the total expenditure incurred by Sahara, to be in tune of Rs. 1.29 crore. Sahara India Pariwar has been the official sponsor of the Indian Men & Women’s National Teams (Senior and Junior) since 2003. It had recently, renewed its support to Indian Hockey by announcing to sponsor the Men & Women National and Junior Hockey Teams for a period of 5 years at a 170% increase over the past contract period.
