Sahara India Pariwar presents Indian Masters Polo to be played from 29th February, 2012 to 4th March, 2012



·         A total of four professional teams to participate in one of the two ‘Grand-Slams’ of the Indian Polo

·         All the teams to get prize money of Rs. 5 lakhs from Sahara India Pariwar




New Delhi, February 28, 2012: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate and the prime promoter & patron of sports in India, today announced that it will provide support to the upcoming ‘Indian Masters Polo’ which is scheduled to be played from 29th February, 2012 to 4th March, 2012 at the Jaipur Polo ground in New Delhi. As a part of its endeavour, to promote the game of Polo, Sahara India Pariwar will also provide a Prize Money of Rs. 5 lakhs to all the 4 participating teams. The event is promoted by Equisport Management Pvt. Ltd., a sports management company.

Played since the year 1911, The Indian Masters Polo is one of the two ‘Grand-Slams’ of Indian Polo alongwith the Indian Open, which is played at the highest level of 16 goals. The iconic tournament will be played between 4 professional teams of Sahara Warriors, Jindal Steel & Power, Cavalry-USPA & the Cavalry-TJP and will also witness some of the leading Indian & international professionals including Manupal Godara, Samir Suhag, Angad Kalaan, Adhiraj Singh, Lucas Labat, George Meyrick, Niall Donnelly and Miguel Saravia.

Besides supporting the Indian Masters Polo, Sahara India Pariwar & Aamby Valley City, in association with Jaipur Riding & Polo Club had earlier hosted ‘The Sahara Jaipur Polo Season’, in October 2005. This was the first time that Sahara India Pariwar had extended its support to Polo with an intention to leverage the sport among the masses. Then, in the year 2007, Sahara organised the ‘Sahara City Homes Jodhpur Polo Season’ which was formally inaugurated by His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singh, at Maharaja Gaj Singh II Polo Ground, Jodhpur. The event witnessed 4 tournaments namely Jodhpur Polo Cup, Umaid Bhawan Palace Cup, Rajputana & Central India Cup, H. H. Maharaja of Jodhpur Cup.

Speaking on the occasion, ‘Saharasri’ Subrata Roy Sahara, Managing Worker & Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar, said, “I believe that Sports represent the most spirited, healthy and energetic facet of a society. The sponsor of Indian Cricket and Hockey (Men & Women National and Junior Hockey Teams), Sahara India Pariwar, has adopted Indian Boxing, Wrestling, Archery, Shooting, Track & Field and Tennis covering support of a total of 95 sportsmen in these 6 games who are potential medal winners, until after London Olympics 2012. The group, in order to uplift sports at domestic and grass root level, supports the legendary Calcutta Football League, Sheesh Mahal Cricket Tournament and many other sports at the national, state and district levels. The group has extended its sponsorship to the Uttar Pradesh senior cricket team which represents the state in Ranji and all other domestic tournaments. Sahara also organises ‘The Sahara India Sports Awards’ with an intention to bring together all sports, including those which are very popular and also those which are not so popular, together on a common platform to recognize and honour the achievements of Indian sportspersons who have taken the pride of the nation to the highest level and kept the tricolor flying high. The awards are aimed to provide a forum of encouragement to young sporting talents and motivate them to bring laurels to the nation and sports.
